With a mix of celebration, community pride, and economic empowerment, DLO Day promises to be one of the city’s most vibrant summer gatherings.
The event will include live entertainment, a diverse lineup of Black-owned businesses, and engaging activities for youth and families. Attendees can expect a marketplace with local entrepreneurs offering handmade goods, unique services, and prepackaged foods. In keeping with D’Angelo Russell’s commitment to his roots, the vendor fee has been kept at a modest $25 to support local participation, and many vendor spots have already been sponsored. There will also be games, food trucks, live DJs, and a festive atmosphere that reflects the spirit of the city.
D’Angelo Russell, currently a star guard in the NBA, has never forgotten where he came from. Raised in Louisville, Russell has made it a point to return and invest in the same neighborhoods that supported him in his youth. Last year, he donated $100,000 to reconstruct the basketball courts at Algonquin Park. The court renovation marked a powerful full-circle moment for the athlete, who described the gift as “a small gesture for me to give back to where I grew up… Why not start where I started?” The impact didn’t stop there. That same weekend in 2024, Russell hosted Camp DLo, a youth basketball camp that brought together young athletes from across the city to receive professional-level training, mentorship, and inspiration. The camp concluded with a pro-style showcase game at Central High School, another nod to Russell’s deep Louisville roots.
DLO Day is a continuation of this legacy. Beyond the music and marketplace, the event is grounded in purpose. It provides an opportunity for youth engagement, economic uplift for Black-owned businesses, and visibility for community voices. In a city working to support its local entrepreneurs and young leaders, DLO Day offers both joy and momentum. As June 28 approaches, excitement continues to build. Residents are encouraged to attend, bring their families, support local vendors, and celebrate a hometown success story who’s using his platform to pour back into the community that raised him. D’Angelo Russell’s return isn’t just a visit, it’s a reminder of what’s possible when you never forget your roots.
